Senior Parents,

We are excited to celebrate your child this Thursday, May 28, from 7:20-8:20 pm with a senior parade at Allatoona High School. Attached to this email is a map to better inform you of what Thursday will look like (See Resources Section).  Please begin arriving on campus at around 7:10, and drive around to the back of the stadium. Fill both lanes as you enter, and stop when you get to the golf cart. From there, the two lanes will merge, and you will see the route takes you around the back of the school, through the student parking lot, and to the front of the school to collect your diploma. You will exit then through the athletic entrance where our school resource officers will help you get back on to Hwy 92.

A few reminders for Thursday-

  1. Remain in your vehicles at all times
  2. Maintain at least a 6 ft distance from everyone outside of immediate family members
  3. Keep pace with the car in front of you. Once you begin driving on the parade route, do not stop unless it is at a designated pick up area.
  4. Only those in cars are allowed on campus.
  5. Please have a sign with your graduates name (first and last) on your car, or in the hands of someone in your car. Our teachers would like to cheer for them individually, but not all teachers know every student.

We are excited to see all of you on Thursday, and we can’t wait to celebrate the class of 2020!

Monday, May 18, 2020

Dear Families of Allatoona Seniors,

As many of you know this week marks the official conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year. If not for the ongoing crisis brought on by COVID-19, we would be preparing for our graduation ceremony. Sadly, we’ll be unable to hold our regularly scheduled events at this time, but we’re still hoping and planning for graduation ceremonies.

Some of our students are unable to wait for the possibility of a physical graduation and need their diplomas sooner, rather than later. For this reason, we are asking that all of our graduates come to school this coming week to pick up their diplomas.

Please see the attachment to this email for a special presentation that we have put together for this event. If you cannot make it to collect your diploma, please contact us to make other arrangements.

Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Sincerely,

Candace Wilkes

Principal

Senior parents,

We wanted to clear up some confusion that the email yesterday about the turf replacement may have caused. The turf was originally scheduled to be replaced starting the day after our May graduation date. When it was announced that school would be cancelled for the remainder of the year, we reached out and asked them if they could begin earlier, because if we stuck to our original timeline, we would be unable to host any type of graduation on our campus, as that timeline took us into late July. The district worked with us on this, and they helped us start ahead of schedule because we are committed to hosting graduation at Allatoona High School for our seniors. We do not yet have a date, as we are waiting on the governor’s approval to gather in larger groups, but the district is aware that we want to graduate on campus, and that our turf is in the middle of being replaced. All those variables will be considered when the district chooses a date for graduation. Above all, the safety of everyone involved will take precedence, so thank you for your patience as navigate these uncharted waters.

I hope this clears up confusion. We love our seniors and want them to have the opportunity to graduate in the stadium like all of the other graduating classes of Allatoona High School. We may not know a date at this time, but we do know that together we can make it happen.

Thank you,

Candace Wilkes

Allatoona community,

We hope that you are staying safe during these uncertain times and that you know all of the administrators, teachers, and staff at Allatoona are here to help you should you need anything. We wanted to let you know about some exciting news that we found out this week. Due to your SPLOST dollars at work, we will be getting new turf at the stadium. We are one of the first schools to get the turf installed, and they are able to start ahead of schedule. Starting this Saturday, April 25th, they will begin removing the existing turf, and then over the next few months, the process will continue until we have a new turf field installed. We are so fortunate that Cobb County is committed to helping the high schools with this need, and that we are able to have it done this early so that we can start the next school year with our new field. Due to this construction, as you drive by Allatoona, the gates to the school may be open. That does not mean that campus is open. All CCSD facilities, including the campus of Allatoona, are still closed. We just wanted you to be aware that this construction was taking place and while the gates may be open, the campus is not. Thank you so much for your understanding and in helping us spread the word in the community about our exciting new turf field coming soon.

Thank you,

Candace Wilkes,

Principal

Attention Senior Parents:

Attached you will find the plan we will use on Friday, May 1, for our seniors to come on campus to pick up their caps and gowns along with dropping off school items such as textbooks, library books, and uniforms.  Please read the document carefully and look over the map on page two.  An essential element of the plan is the staggered arrival times.  Please be sure your senior understands how important it is that they arrive during their designated time, follow the drive through plan, then leave campus.  We must adhere to social distancing guidelines.

We do not have a date yet for graduation, as our district continues to implement the governor’s directives for gathering and social distancing.  The staff of Allatoona is very excited to take this initial step toward graduation for our seniors.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Candace Wilkes,

Principal

Thursday, April 2, 2020

Allatoona Families,

While we are just one day from spring break on the calendar, we continue to shelter at home and adjust to this unusual health situation.  As I am sure you know, Governor Kemp announced that all K-12 public schools would remain closed for face-to-face instruction for the remainder of the year.  It is difficult to accept the reality we will not see our students again for quite some time, and we feel the uncertainty of the weeks ahead.

The faculty and staff of Allatoona High School are working to provide our students with the best digital learning environment possible.  With that in mind, we have made the decision to shift instructional delivery to four days per week, Monday – Thursday, beginning the week of April 13th.  This schedule will allow our students to have Friday to “catch-up” and reach out to ask questions, or families can use this time to enjoy a bit of family time together.  Our staff will use Friday to collaborate together, improve our digital learning skills, and prepare for upcoming lessons.

Our district is sending a communication to all families regarding grading practices for the reminder of the school year.  Please look for this district email.  I will have a digital faculty meeting tomorrow to ensure the entire staff is on the same page regarding grading.

As you know, the school district has canceled all field trips.  Understandably, we’ve been getting a lot of questions regarding refunds.  At this point, we are unable to guarantee anything because the payments were all made to travel companies.  This process could take some time (6-8 weeks).  As soon as funds are reimbursed to the school, we will move forward with processing refunds.  We are sorry for the inconvenience but hope that you’ll bear with us as we are all dealing with these extraordinary events.

In these uncertain times, we are doing our best to make thoughtful decisions for our students and school.  I know graduation and many end of year events are on your minds.  We will continue to communicate with you as decisions are made for the coming weeks.  Thank you for placing your trust in us to provide your child’s education, and it is our pleasure to provide the best learning experience possible.

Sincerely,

Candace Wilkes signature

New! Cobb Parents Able to Update Student, Family Info on Electronic Device

Starting April 1, Cobb Schools parents will be able to log in to their ParentVUE account to update their family information.

The new platform is available to enrolling Cobb parents and will enable the enrolling adult to digitally update their email, phone numbers, address, and contact information for their student via an electronic device.

This new platform was created to eliminate the need for the enrolling adult to come to the school to complete this information. If an enrolling adult does not have a ParentVUE account, the enrolling adult can contact the school principal for their login information during this time of digital learning.

Here’s What to Do Once Logged in to ParentVUE:

  • Select your student.
  • Scroll down to the tab on the left side and select Change My Information.
  • If you have an address change, you will need to upload Home Ownership documentation or Lease/Rental Agreement and a current utility bill.  The address will not be changed for the student in the system until the proofs of residency have been verified by the local school.
  • If your new address is listed outside of the current school’s feeder pattern, you will need to apply for a Continuation of Enrollment Transfer for your student to remain at the current school for the remainder of this school year.
  • If you temporarily reside with another person and the proof of residency is in the name of someone other than the enrolling adult or their spouse, you will need to complete Form JBC-2 Statement of Legal Residence for the school. The Spanish version is available here.

Some information is locked in ParentVUE, requiring the enrolling adult to contact the local school for additional paperwork to make the necessary changes.

For additional questions, the enrolling adult should contact their child’s local school.

In accordance with Governor Kemp’s guidance and to best prioritize student and staff safety, Cobb Schools remain closed indefinitely. Per executive order from Governor Kemp on March 26th, all public schools and colleges in the state of Georgia will be closed through at least Friday, April 24th. An update will be provided by the Governor’s Office and the District prior to April 24th.

Digital learning will not occur over spring break which is from April 6th through April 10th.

Food distribution will continue over spring break at all designated sites across Cobb County on Monday, April 6th.

School closures continue to include athletics/sports, extracurricular school activities, proms, school building activities, and trips.

While our school buildings are closed, the education process has not stopped. All staff are working remotely to best support students, including delivering digital and physical instructional resources to students while they’re at home.

We will continue to keep our staff and community updated through this page as the most up-to-date source of information related to the corona virus’s impact on Cobb Schools.

A Message from Dr. Janet Memark, Cobb & Douglas Public Health

Cobb & Douglas Public Health wants you to know that the health and safety of our Cobb County residents is our top priority, particularly as we deal with COVID-19 in Georgia.

On Monday, March 16, 2020 the Cobb County School District, Marietta City Schools and many private schools will be closed to protect our community from the spread of Coronavirus. It is very important that our residents respect these efforts and we ask families to adhere to the social distancing recommendations and keep children home from places like malls, movie theaters, and other places with large gatherings of people. This will help tremendously as we all work together to slow the transmission of this disease.

Cobb & Douglas Public Health, along with our Cobb County partners, wants to assure everyone that we are working tirelessly to protect your health and wellbeing. Visit CobbandDouglasPublicHealth.org for more information.

Dear Cobb Schools Families,

We have been committed to keeping our community updated about the rapidly developing situation with COVID-19. Throughout the process, we have relied on the guidance from the Georgia Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as, as our state leaders.

In accordance with Governor Kemp’s guidance today and to best prioritize student and staff safety, effective Monday, March 16th, Cobb Schools will be closed.

The school closures include all school building activities, athletics/sports, extracurricular school activities, and trips.

While our school buildings will be closed, the education process will not stop. All staff will work remotely to best support students, including delivering digital and physical instructional resources to students while they’re at home.

The decision to close schools was not easy. After already closing one school as a result of a positive case of COVID-19 and now the news of the first confirmed COVID-19 related death in Cobb County and Gov. Kemp’s recommendations, we knew the time had come to transition students to digital learning and close our schools.

We know that you may have questions regarding how the school closure will impact you, and we will work to provide you the answers.

We will continue to keep our community updated on the next steps during the school closure process as we turn to our digital learning resources.

We know this is a very difficult time for our school families and the community. We will work together to get through this unprecedented time.

More information will be communicated on Friday, March 13 to all our families and staff. Please continue to stay updated on http://www.cobbk12.org/covid/

Parents and Students,

In light of the growing health concerns for Coronovirus and in an abundance of caution for the coming weeks, we made the decision to move the prom from March 28th  to May 9th. Student and faculty safety are top priority.  The location, Cobb  Energy Center, will remain the same.  Prom tickets will still be available on mypaymentsplus.  Thank you so much for your understanding.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Monica Haney at monica.haney@cobbk12.org

Dear Cobb Schools Community and Staff,

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) informed us today of a positive case of Coronavirus at Kincaid Elementary School. At the direction of the DPH, and due to federal privacy laws, we are unable to share specifics about the case.

We have prioritized the health of Kincaid students and staff by deciding to close Kincaid Elementary for the next 14 days beginning on March 12th. Within 48 hours of school closure, and following DPH guidelines, Cobb staff will thoroughly clean and sanitize the entire campus, including buses. No other Cobb schools are closed at this time.

The District has planned for this scenario, and the students at Kincaid will continue receiving digital classroom content from their teachers using a variety of digital platforms and tools.

Our staff is working to keep our facilities clean, and our schools are reminding students about best practices for staying healthy including practicing good hygiene.  Navigating these next days and weeks will take a team effort, but we believe that our community is well-prepared.

We will continue to follow the guidance of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the DPH on these matters. Moving forward, please know that we will be prioritizing student and staff safety in every decision that we make.

Attention Allatoona families:

This notification is to make you aware the Cobb County School District is maintaining close contact with the CDC and Department of Public Health to keep our students and families safe; as a result, the district has suspended attendance requirements related to exempting final exams for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

With this change, students who wish to exempt must continue to maintain an 80 or better in their non-EOC course until the end of the semester and meet the academic integrity guideline.   In an ongoing effort to keep students on track in their course work, Allatoona teachers will continue to offer before and after school help sessions along with support as needed during Buc Bloc each Wednesday.  We continue to encourage good attendance when your child is in good health, but please be assured that if your child is absent due to illness that their attendance will not count against them for the exemption. Please keep the lines of communication open with your child’s teachers throughout the semester.

Allatoona families,

We are very excited to share with you the direct donation fundraiser All Hands on Deck. It has been nine years since Allatoona has planned for a major campus improvement.  This fundraiser which begins today,  March 9, will allow us to accomplish several goals related to capital improvements.  Our first goal is to complete the funding for a Jumbo Tron that will be placed in our stadium. Please review the attached fundraiser document and the incentives provided if you choose to participate in this worthy cause.  In an effort to make this as seamless as possible, you may make your donation either by check or through My Payments Plus online.

A copy was also provided to your child in home room today.

Thank you for your support, and Go Bucs!

Wednesday, March 4, 2020

Dear Cobb Schools Community,

On Monday evening, Governor Kemp announced that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) had confirmed the first two cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Georgia. The CDC and the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) continue to communicate that the likelihood of this becoming a major issue in our state is low, but we understand that our community remains concerned.

We want to reassure you that the District has been maintaining close contact with our public health officials for several weeks, and we continue to follow their guidance on these health-related developments. We continue to be proactive in keeping our schools, buses, and other facilities clean by utilizing our protocols for health-related conditions. We are also modifying those protocols, when necessary, to include any guidance received from the CDC and/or DPH. Our highly qualified school nursing staff continues to go above and beyond to help ensure our students and staff remain in good health. We continue to remind our school communities about best practices for staying healthy. The Cobb County School District will be diligent to follow the guidance of the CDC and DPH in our response to COVID-19.

You can help by staying informed, practicing good hygiene, and staying home or keeping children home if they have been running a fever or are exhibiting signs of illness.

The CDC and DPH have been very consistent in urging the following measures for all Georgians to help prevent the spread of any respiratory virus:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Cough or sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue to cover it, then throw the tissue in the trash.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

You can learn more about the Department of Public Health’s guidance and what the Cobb County School District is doing here. The Department of Public Health will continue updating the community through their website, and the CDC is constantly updating their website with the most current information.

The health and well-being of our students and staff is our utmost concern.  As we move forward, we will continue to respond in a manner that prioritizes their safety and adheres to the guidelines and recommendations set forth by the Center for Disease Control and the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Best regards,

Chris Ragsdale

Allatoona Community:

Each year we recognize an individual who has contributed to Allatoona High School and has made or is making a positive impact.  This award is the Scott Bursmith Impact Award, named for our school’s first principal.  We want to recognize one who serves the students of Allatoona High School offering their time to ensure our students have an outstanding experience here and who models the established vision for service and excellence.   Allatoona High School would not be the successful school we know today without the work of many volunteers.

Please go to our school website to make a nomination for recognition this year at the last regular season football game.

Dear Community Members:

Please be aware our track resurfacing project continues. The first 2 days of school, a major portion of the project will be taking place in the stadium.  This will cause our stadium lot, where many parents pick up students, to be closed.  We encourage you to have your child ride the bus these first few days. We will continue to update you on the progress of the stadium work and its impact on our campus traffic.

Thank you,

Candace Wilkes

Dear Parents,

We are quickly approaching the end of the 2018 – 2019 school year, and it is an exciting time for many students. The end of the year brings exams, playoff games, and graduation. Allatoona High School is a special place to be, and I am thankful for my first year as principal here. As we wrap up this school year, there are a few reminders I wanted to share with you.

The exam schedules for seniors and underclassmen have been posted on our website and sent out via email blasts. Please pay careful attention to our attendance policies on those days. No student may take an exam early without prior approval from administration, and we do not allow checkouts on those days unless it is an emergency. These policies are in place to support the success of all of our students, and I appreciate your support in this.

Graduation will take place at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 24, 2019, in the Allatoona High School Stadium. All information on graduation can be found on the Allatoona website under Quick Links. In the event of weather issues, we will communicate alternate plans as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Looking forward to next year, parking applications are currently available on the website, and these will be accepted as early as May 13, 2019. Complete information can be found on the first page of the application. Our annual Buc Bash is scheduled for July 30th. We will welcome freshmen and their parents to campus at 9:00 AM, and our upper classmen in the afternoon. Please visit our web site over the summer for updates about the upcoming school year.

I look forward to a successful last couple of weeks of this school year. I am proud of all of our Buccaneers and thankful to once again be a part of Buc Nation. Thank you for your warm welcome this school year!

Sincerely,

Candace Wilkes signature

Good evening Allatoona Families!

This morning, during our regular morning announcements, students watched a district-created video with information on what to do during a Code Red situation.  The video was produced by CCSD and can be viewed at www.cobbshield.com  or by clicking this link.   Students were asked to discuss the video with their parents.  If you have any questions, I encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this video and view the content on the website.

Thank you for your continued support!

Mrs. Candace Wilkes

Allatoona Holiday Assistance Program

We are currently organizing our Holiday Assistance program.

If your family is in need of assistance for the holidays please contact Dawn Neely (School Counselor) at dawn.neely@cobbk12.org by Friday, November 9th. All assistance will be handled confidentially.

** If we have assisted your family in the past, we are asking that you seek assistance through The Center for Family Resources. This will allow us to spread our resources and assist other families. I have attached the flyer and the registration dates are next week. If other options become available, we will forward that information to you as well.

WANT TO HELP: Keep an eye out for an email with information on how you can sponsor a child or family by purchasing a gift or donating a gift card. My plan is to get this out before Thanksgiving Break.

Thanks in advance,

We often talk about student safety being our first priority at Allatoona, students have to be safe before they can learn. Student safety in the Cobb County School District means taking every precaution to keep students safe and today was an opportunity to do exactly that. Administrators learned of a false rumor which indicated the possibility of a student being on campus with a weapon. After a thorough investigation, it was verified that no weapon was on campus at any time. It is important to me that you know all students on campus were safe and instruction was minimally interrupted for a brief period of time.

Parents,

We are excited to begin another school year at Allatoona High School.  Please be aware that Allatoona students registered for the ENTIRE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR at one time during the Spring registration period.  Our goal is to make the registration process as smooth as possible.  One way we do that is by building the master schedule and hiring staff based on all of the Spring student requests for courses during the registration window.  Since the master schedule is based entirely upon initial student registrations, it is essential that students remain in the courses which were requested and placed on their schedule.  Schedule changes at this time are not possible, unless it is determined that the academic placement is not apropriate.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.  We look forward to working with your student throughout the year.

Candace Wilkes

Principal

Friday, July 27, 2018

Parents, as we plan for the start of the year, dismissal traffic at AHS is a challenge.  We encourage you to have your child ride the bus on the first day.  If you do pick up your child at dismissal, please refrain from sitting in the car line that blocks the student lot.  Instead, please park in the stadium lot to collect your car rider.  This will allow us to quickly exit student drivers off campus at the traffic light.  Thank you!

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Just a reminder, our annual back to school “BUC BASH” will take place Monday, July 30, 2018.
